About Me

Susanne Weichhardt, BSc (Hons) TCM Acupuncture, MBAcC

Hello, I am Susanne, and since 2007 I have been working with people to find balance in their lives by applying the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, giving lifestyle and nutritional advice, as well as through emotional coaching and providing a positive mindset.

After completion of a 3-year course at the University of Westminster London I graduated with a BSc Honours degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture. This course includes comprehensive study of both TCM and Western medical sciences to ensure a solid understanding of illnesses, anatomy of the body, physiology and pathology. I gained more in-depth knowledge in all aspects of women’s health after completing a post graduate Diploma course in gynaecology, obstetrics and IVF. For many years I have been working as a fertility acupuncturist at the Zita West clinic in London where I work alongside consultants, nurses, midwives and nutritionists to take women through their fertility journey.

In addition I like to incorporate new research into my daily practice and I am committed to continuous professional development and have completed a number of post-graduate studies. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).
The BAcC is the UK’s largest regulatory body for practitioners of traditional acupuncture. As a founder member of the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) accredited register scheme, the BAcC guarantees high standards of training, safe practice and professional conduct. As a member I carry full liability insurance.

About Acupuncture

Acupuncture – A Relaxing & Holistic Therapy

Traditional acupuncture is part of the ancient Chinese healthcare system based on the principle that illness is caused by an imbalance of the body’s Qi (the vital energy).  In traditional acupuncture there is no mind-body split. In other words, the physical, emotional and mental aspect of life are seen as interdependent hence its focus is on improving the overall well-being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. By inserting fine needles, treatments aim to restore balance within the body, mind and environment.

It is recognised for its ability to contribute to relieving a wide range of chronic and debilitating conditions and there is a lot of scientific evidence to support this. NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) particularly recommends acupuncture to treat primary chronic pain, migraines and headaches and the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) recommends it for chronic pain, including low back pain and knee pain.

While individuals often seek acupuncture initially for specific complaints, they soon discover that in addition to relief from their original symptoms, they experience revitalisation and increased relaxation with ongoing treatments. Energy levels may rise, sleep quality can improve, and stress levels become more manageable.

As a result, many clients choose to continue with acupuncture as a maintenance treatment, scheduling sessions monthly or seasonally.

What to expect

During the initial treatment session, I will begin by gathering the client’s medical history through detailed questioning.

I will also assess their pulse and examine their tongue, which helps form a diagnosis. Based on this information, I will develop a personalised treatment plan and recommend a course of acupuncture sessions, specifying the number and frequency required.

While some clients may feel nervous about being needled, it is important to note that acupuncture needles are extremely fine, and most people do not feel discomfort during insertion. Sensations commonly experienced include a mild tingle or dull ache, which subsides quickly. Many clients actually find the treatment deeply relaxing.

In addition to acupuncture, I may incorporate other appropriate treatment techniques. These may include:

  • Acupressure: Applying pressure to specific acupuncture points.
  • Acutaping: The use of specialized adhesive tapes on acupuncture points.
  • Chinese Nutritional Therapy: Providing dietary recommendations based on Chinese Medicine principles.
  • Cupping: Placing suction cups on the skin to stimulate circulation.
  • Ear-Acupuncture: Stimulating specific points on the ear for therapeutic effects.
  • Electro-Acupuncture: Applying a mild electric current to acupuncture needles for enhanced stimulation.
  • Moxibustion: The burning of dried herbs near acupuncture points to warm and invigorate them.
  • Lifestyle Advice: Offering guidance on healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Use of Essential Oils: Incorporating the application or inhalation of essential oils for their therapeutic properties.
